TUESDAY JANUARY 8

Audience Appreciation Night
Short readings by the Art Bards: Valentino Assenza, Heather Cadsby, Rudy
Fearon, Colleen Flood, Cynthia Gould, Alison Hancock, Stephen Humphrey,
Francine Lewis, Myna Wallin
Live music with gypsy jazz trio, Red Rhythm
Each audience member will receive a chapbook of poetry by the Art Bar team
No hat will be passed
Please join us for this annual evening of music, merriment and mouthfuls


TUESDAY JANUARY 15

Mark Truscott
Mark Truscott's first book, Said Like Reeds or Things, was published in
2004 by Coach House Books. His work has appeared in the anthologies
Pissing Ice: An Anthology of 'New' Canadian Poets (BookThug) and Shift and
Switch: New Canadian Poetry (Mercury Press). He is the curator of the Test
Reading Series and a co-editor of the magazine BafterC.

Kate Leadbeater
Telecom enthusiast by day, artist by night, Kate Leadbeater, originally
from Sudbury, now lives in Toronto. Her play, Raconte-moi s'en une autre,
was staged by Sudbury's Theatre du Nouvel-Ontario. She has recently
focused on poetry and has given spoken word performances at a number of
events including the Toronto Poetry Slam, Cryptic Chatter, Toronto's
Pride's Fruit Loopz, and Toronto's Word on the Street Festival.

Lillian Necakov
Lillian Necakov was born in Belgrade (former) Yugoslavia and grew up in
Toronto. She is the author of a number of books including Hat Trick (Exile
Editions) and Polaroids (Coach House Books). Her work was included in the
recent anthology Surreal Estate: Thirteen Poets Under the Influence (The
Mercury Press). She will be celebrating her new book, The Bone Broker
(Mansfield Press).


TUESDAY JANUARY 22

9th annual Art Bar Discovery Night with guest host Nancy Bullis
On Discovery Night, up to 20 poets present their own work and are judged
by audience ballots. Open to anyone who has never featured at the Art Bar
Poetry Series. There are 3 rounds.

RULES
1) You must sign up yourself
2) Poets are free to work in any style
3) No props, costumes, musical instruments allowed
4) Audience members decide by ballot which poets continue to the next round
5) Each poet gets 3 minutes to present one poem

Sign-up begins at 7:30pm. Competitors should bring 3 poems, no longer than
3 minutes each. Prize is a feature reading at the Art Bar on Tuesday 8
April 2008.



TUESDAY JANUARY 29

Jay Ruzesky
Jay Ruzesky is the author of five books of poetry starting with What Was
Left of James Dean (Outlaw Editions, 1992). His most recent book is Blue
Himalayan Poppies (Nightwood Editions, 2001). He is on the editorial board
of the Malahat Review and teaches at Malaspina University/College on
Vancouver Island.

Angela Rawlings
Angela Rawlings is a poet and multidisciplinary artist who has worked with
many arts organizations including The Mercury Press, Lexiconjury Reading
Series and the TV series Heart of a Poet. In 2001 she received the
bpNichol Award for Distinction in Writing. She is the author of Wide
slumber for lepidopterists (Coach House Books, 2006), which was featured
in the Globe and Mail's top 100 books for 2006. It was nominated for the
Lampert Award, and was translated from page to stage for the Harbourfront
Centre's Hatch: Emerging Performance Projects In Toronto.

Dave Silverberg
Dave Silverberg is a spoken word artist, journalist, poetry promoter and
lover of egg nog. He is a member of Last Call Poets, a performance poetry
collective. He is also host and artistic director of Toronto Poetry Slam,
a monthly spoken word competition. His latest book of poetry is, Bag of
Wires (LyricalMyrical). His favourite band, yet also his most hated food,
