TUESDAY APRIL 1

John Pass
John Pass won the Governor General's Award in 2006 for his book, Stumbling
in the Bloom (Oolichan Books). He won the Canada Poetry Prize in 1988 and
the Gillian Lowndes Award in 2001. Sixteen books and chapbooks of his
poetry have been published including Water Stair (Oolichan Books) which
was a finalist for both the Governor General's Award and the Dorothy
Livesay Prize. He lives in Madeira Park, BC.

Lee Maracle
Lee Maracle is a member of the Stolo Nation. She is the author of a number
of award-winning works including Ravenson; Bobbi Lee; Sojourner's Truth
and other stories; My Home as I Remember; Telling it:Women and Language
Across Cultures. She is currently ABS/English Associate Professor at UofT,
and instructor at Centre for Indigenous Theatre. She is the author of the
poetry collection Bent Box (Theytus Books).

Anya Douglas
Anya Douglas was born in Latvia and immigrated to Toronto with her family
in 1996. She has two degrees from York University, and is a free-lance
languages teacher. She is also a musician and lead singer in the band,
Personal Circus. She writes poetry in both English and Russian, currently
lives on Queen West, and is constantly trying to quit smoking.



TUESDAY APRIL 8

Jerome Paul - Art Bar Discovery Night Winner
Jerome Paul is the winner of the 2008 Art Bar Discovery Night. He is
currently enrolled at York University. He was born in Sri Lanka and lived
there for sixteen years. "The formative years in that beautiful country,
as well as the experience of adjusting to a new climate have informed my
writing, sometimes in overt but mostly subtle ways".

Johanna Skibsrud
In her debut collection, Late Night With Wild Cowboys (Gaspereau Press),
Johanna Skibsrud offers a series of takes on the Western genre, its
character profiles, sweeping landscapes and the hyperbolic adventures to
be had within. Her poetry has appeared in various journals including The
Antigonish Review, Prism International, and Exile. She currently lives in
Toronto.

Dave Margoshes
Dave Margoshes is a Regina poet and fiction writer. He has published three
volumes of poetry, the most recent being Purity of Absence (Beach Holme
Press). He has won a number of writing prizes including The Stephen
Leacock Prize for Poetry.



TUESDAY APRIL 15

Paul Wilson
Paul Wilson is the author of three books of poetry and has won the City of
Regina Book Award, the Saskatchewan Writers' Guild Literary Award for
Poetry, and the Sterling Poetry Award. He is the co-publisher of Hagios
Press. He will be celebrating his new book of poetry, Turning Mountain
(Wolsak and Wynn). He lives in Regina.

Elizabeth Rhett Woods
Elizabeth Rhett Woods is a playwright (A Way of Loving: CBC Radio),
novelist (The Yellow Volkswagen: Simon & Schuster), and poet (Men:
Fiddlehead/Gooselane Editions). She will be touring with her new poetry
book, 1970: A Novel Poem (Ekstasis Editions). She lives in Victoria BC.

The PoetiKs
Keyboardist David Story, bassist Michael Morse and performance poet Nancy
Bullis met to perform at the 2004 Distillery Jazz Festival. The PoetiKs
have since appeared at the Red School Primer and the Tranzac Club. In
2007, The PoetiKs performed at the Drake Underground, the Silver Dollar
and the Now Lounge.



TUESDAY APRIL 22

Sharon Harris
Sharon Harris is Books Editor at Torontoist, and a regular contributor to
Word: Canada's Magazine for Readers + Writers. Her work has appeared in
such journals as Geist, dANDelion, Rampike, Quill & Quire,and The Capilano
Review. Her visual pieces have been shown at the Toronto Free Gallery and
on CityTV. She is the author of four chapbooks and one trade book of
poetry titled, AVATAR (The Mercury Press).

Tara-Michelle Ziniuk
Tara-Michelle Ziniuk is a Montreal-born, Toronto-based writer, performer
and activist. She is the author of Emergency Contact (McGilligan Books).
She has performed at Toronto's Small Press Bookfair, Ladyfest (Toronto &
Ottawa) and Montreal's Words & Music series. Her work has received praise
in THIS, Broken Pencil, Xtra and NOW magazine.

Doug Valleau
Doug Valleau was born and bred in Toronto. He has loved music and
literature all his days. For many years he taught high school English and
played french horns (both modern and Beethoven period without valves). He
will be celebrating his first book of poetry, Focus (Pendas Productions).



TUESDAY APRIL 29

Karen Houle
Karen Houle will be touring with her second book of poetry, During
(Gaspereau Press). Her first book, Ballast (Gaspereau Press) was a
finalist for the 2001 Gerald Lampert Award. Her work has been published in
Dropped Threads 2. She teaches philosophy at the University of Guelph.

Paul Sutherland
Paul Sutherland hails from Lincolnshire, UK. He is the author of two books
of poetry: Seven Earth Odes (Endpapers Press) and Holy Week Sequence
(T.C.Parry Press). Since 1996 he has edited the literary journal, Dream
Catcher, which will be putting out a special Canadian issue in spring
2009.

Asa Boxer
Montreal poet Asa Boxer's first collection is titled, The Mechanical Bird
(Vehicule Press). Asa Boxer won first prize in the 2005 CBC/en route
poetry competition. His poems have appeared in Poetry London, Arc, Books
in Canada and Maisonneuve. He is the author of an online chapbook, The Avi
Boxer Archives (www.vehiculepress.com) which describes, in essay and
snap-shots, the Montreal literary scene of the 1950s and 60s.
