TUESDAY DECEMBER 1

Clara Blackwood
Clara Blackwood is a Toronto-based writer. Her first poetry collection,
Subway Medusa (2007), was the inaugural book in Guernica Editions' First
Poets Series, which features first books by poets thirty-five and under.
Her poetry has appeared in such journals as the Hart House Review,
Misunderstandings Magazine, Carousel, and the U. K. magazine Dream
Catcher.

Dane Swan
Bermudian Dane Swan challenges the definition of genres in poetry.
Featured on 5 CDs, two vinyl EPs, and in various poetry reviews his work
crosses genres from rap, to dub poetry, to slam poetry, to lyrical poetry,
to form and even concrete poetry. Dane is one of only a handful of Canada
based poets to feature at Green Mill's Uptown Poetry Slam - slam poetry's
founding series. In competition he has placed as high as 2nd at the
Canadian Festival of Spoken Word and 3rd at the Rustbelt Regional Slam.
Currently Dane is promoting his Burning Effigy Press chapbook
Narcotics//Flora and writing a new chapbook tentatively titled "Trying to
Count Electric Sheep (but the radioactive glow is bothering my insomnia)".
A 2009 selection for Urb Magazine's Next 1000, Dane AW Swan.

Andrea Jarmai
Andrea Jarmai is a Toronto poet. Her poems have appeared in magazines,
journals and anthologies in Canada, England, Ireland, Japan, Slovakia and
the United States. Following the publication of four chapbooks, her first
major collection of poems, Brother to Dragons, Companion to Owls, was
published by Seraphim Editions, in April 2004. On October 2006, her
translation from the Hungarian of George Faludy's poem "Michelangelo's
Last Prayer" - chosen by Faludy Ð was unveiled on a bronze plaque at the
dedication of George Faludy Place, in Toronto, as part of the permanent
memorial to Faludy. Fools, a fifth chapbook, was published by
LyricalMyrical Press in August 2008. She is studying for an M.Div. degree
at Trinity College in Toronto, and working on the manuscript for a second
major collection of poems, with the working title In the House of
Pomegranates.


TUESDAY DECEMBER 8

Pier Giorgio Di Cicco
Pier Giorgio Di Cicco was born in Arezzo, Italy, and was raised in
Baltimore, Montreal, and Toronto. He currently resides in the countryside
north of Toronto. He is the author of over thirteen books of poems from
1975 to 1986 including The Tough Romance, Dancing in the House Of Cards,
Flying Deeper into the Century, and Virgin Science: Hunting Holistic
Paradigms. He withdrew from the world of letters to join a monastery in
1986 and re-emerged in 2001 to publish Living in Paradise Ð New and
Selected Poems with Mansfield Press. He has been the Emilio Goggio
Visiting Professor in Italian-Canadian Studies at the University of
Toronto, and in 2004 he was named as the Poet Laureate for the City of
Toronto. His latest book was launched at Hot Sauced Words in Oct. 09.

Robert Winger
Robert Winger grew up in a tiny Ontario town, and has since lived in
eastern Canada and Asia. His first book, Muybridge's Horse, A Poem in
three Phases (Nightwood, 2007) was shortlisted for the GG Award, Trillium
Book Award for Poetry, and the Ottawa Book Award.

Moira MacDougall
Moira MacDougall's artistic life began as a serious student of classical
ballet and modern dance. It is poetry, however, that has wed her love of
movement and rhythm with voice and linguistic performance. She is
published in Canadian and American literary journals. Bone Dream,
published by Tightrope Books, is her first collection of poems.


TUESDAY DECEMBER 15

Dead Poet's Night
Please join host/organizer David Clink on December 15th as the Art Bar
Poetry Series celebrates its 7th year hosting the annual meeting of the
Dead Poets Society. Those doing short readings of the work of dead poets
include: Clara Blackwood; Heather Cadsby; Rocco de Giacomo; Nashira
Dernesch; Violet Fodor; Catherine Graham; John B. Lee; Francine Lewis;
Bruce Meyer; Alison Pick; Dane Swan; Phoebe Tsang; Lisa Young; and, Kurt
Zubatiuk. Dead poets being covered tonight include: Milton Acorn; Anna
Akhmatova; Wendell Berry; Gwendolyn Brooks; Caedmon; Gerard de Nerval;
Emily Dickenson; Miroslav Holub; Patrick Kavanagh; Alfred Noyes; Odetta;
Robert Service; and, Gertrude Stein.

Heather Cadsby
Heather Cadsby is the author of four books of poetry. The most recent
book, Could be, was published by Brick Books in October 2009. Her poems
have appeared in such publications as The Malahat Review, CV2, Grain,
PRISM international and The Best Canadian Poetry in English, 2008.

Rocco de Giacomo
Rocco de Giacomo's first full-length poetry collection, Ten Thousand Miles
Between Us was launched recently by Quattro Books. Rocco is a regular
contributor of personal essays to Toro Magazine. He is a member of the
council for the Art Bar Poetry Series and is on the bpNichol Coordinating
Committee.

Nashira Dernesch
Nashira Dernesch co-edited the literary journal Existere for three years.
In 2006 she won the Art Bar Poetry Series'; Annual Discovery Night. She's
published two chapbooks, It's No Secret You'll Feel Better, (believe your
own press), which sold out in two days, and This Snowing Under, (The
Emergency Response Unit).

Violet Fodor
Violet is a native Torontonian. She has performed and hosted throughout
Toronto. She was published by Burning Effigy Press. She lives with her
husband, novelist Timothy Carter and a hyper cat named Karma.

Catherine Graham
Catherine Graham is the author of three poetry collections: The Watch,
Pupa and The Red Element. Vice President of Project Bookmark Canada and
Marketing Coordinator for the Rowers Pub Reading Series, she teaches
creative writing at the University of Toronto. Visit

John B. Lee
John B. Lee is Brantford's Poet Laureate. His work has appeared
internationally in over 500 publications. He has won two chapbook awards.
He is the author of 50 books of poetry, including, in 2009, The Place That
We Keep After Leaving; and, Island on the Wind-Breathed Edge of the Sea.

Francine Lewis
Francine P. Lewis has performed her poetry at venues such as the Art Bar,
Syntactic Sunday and nik beat's Words and Music. Her poems have been
published in local magazines and she has published short stories in the
anthologies Tales from the Wonder Zone: Odyssey and DARK DREAMS: A
Collection of Horror and Suspense by Black Writers. She is currently
working on her first poetry collection and a couple of science fiction
novels.

Bruce Meyer
Bruce Meyer is author of 30 books including Mesopotamia, Dog Days, Bread,
The Golden Thread and Heroes. He is a professor of English at Georgian
College in the Laurentian University BA Program.

Alison Pick
Alison Pick is the author of two poetry collections, Question & Answer and
The Dream World. She won the 2002 Bronwen Wallace Award, the 2003 National
Magazine Award, and the 2005 CBC Literary Award, all for poetry. Her new
novel, Thursday's Child, is due out with Anansi next Fall?

Dane Swan
Toronto based Bermudian poet Dane Swan has been published in Variations
Magazine, Misunderstandings Magazine, Creature Magazine and Outwrite. His
most recent chapbook Narcotics//Flora was published this spring by Burning
Effigy Press. Dane is currently completing his second chapbook tentatively
titled Counting Electric Sheep...

Phoebe Tsang
Phoebe Tsang was born in Hong Kong, grew up in England and currently
resides in Canada. She is the author of the poetry collection Contents of
a MermaidÕs Purse (Tightrope Books, 2009). PhoebeÕs poetry can be found in
the anthologies Garden Variety (Quattro Books) and Not a Muse (Haven
Books). Journal credits include Asia Literary Review (Hong Kong), Atlas02
(UK & India), Brand (UK), Room and Freefall (Canada). Her chapbooks are
Solitaires (Lyricalmyrical Press, 2006) and To Kiss the Ground (Press On!
2007). A professional violinist, she is a multi-genre artist who holds a
BSc in Architecture from the University of London.

Lisa Young
Lisa Young is a work-at-home editor for Thomson Reuters. Her work has
appeared in Existere, Jones Av., Misunderstandings Magazine, and Quills
Canadian Poetry Magazine. She is the senior poetry editor for Existere and
is currently working on her first poetry collection, When the Earth is a
Bowl.

Kurt Zubatiuk
Kurt Zubatiuk's poetry has appeared in Annex Echo, Seeds 5 and the
Renaissance Conspiracy anthologies. In 2007, he launched the Press On!
micro press and Lyrical Myrical published his chapbook, Ekstasis. He is in
his 2nd year of psychotherapy training and lives in the Annex with his
writer wife, Heather.
